Stop Roaming Euclid

Well it’s first semester & already huge herds of tipsy underclassmen have returned to their rightful place in the ‘Cuse party pyramid: the sidewalk of Euclid.

We’ve all seen it. The freshman girls clad in black tank tops and straight-legged jeans, clutching a White Claw or two or three, looking for some action and a semi-decent place to end up. But reality is, if nobody has addys, the chances of finding and actually getting into a fun party are slim (& even slimmer for guys).

Unless the thought of wandering down the street entices you, we know you’re desperate for some tips on how to have a lit. crazy. movie. weekend this Friday night:

Live Music

This semester in particular, live music shows have been popping up all over the place. We know you saw Pitbull and the Jonas Brothers - but we’re talking front-row seats to local, Syracuse artists. While it may not be the rager you’ve been dreaming of, going out to listen to live music is a great way to socialize and discover SU culture. Although most of these events cost money, a secured weekend plan is def worth the expense.

Check out venues like the “Blue Room” and “The O” that provide a variety of music in an underground location; follow @mosh.retirement and @the.garden.syr on Instagram to see fliers for upcoming shows.

In the upcoming month, Lil Durk will be performing at the OnCenter on Oct. 17 and Involved Entertainment will be hosting a Halloween Party at The Westcott Theater on Oct. 30.

Org and Club Events

Joining organizations and clubs on campus can not only provide a whole new network of ~forced friends~, but most orgs host parties as fundraisers or social exposure on the weekends. ASU, CSA, University Union, and WERW Radio are a few orgs that have recently hosted nighttime events on campus such as game nights and concerts. But we can guarantee that literally every org does it (wink wink, hint hint).

In a big school like this with so many different niche groups, social networking is super important. Like just as important as professional networking… well maybe don’t tell your parents that. Let’s just say the more snapchats you have, the better.

Network with Party-goers

But the BEST technique for finding moves on a weekend night is kiiiinda taking us back to our freshman days. Ugh. Instead of being creepy and following random people to random parties on the street (ew), try to combine groups of friends in advance. All you need is at least one person who knows someone who knows someone that has an address. Plan that shi*t in advance and your golden.

Stay IN

Who said you have to leave the comfort of your dorm to have fun? Some of JERK’s best mems are from staying in with a bottle of wine (or two) and watching crappy tv with your roommates. There is no need for all the tight shorts and flashing lights to have a good time. Find your group of friends that make you feel like YOU, and prioritize spending time with them even if it’s in your shoebox apartment.

Do you even like partying??

Finally, reflect on whether parties are even your “thing.” There is so much pressure from social media, peers, and just toxic college culture that forces all twenty-somethings to think that if you aren’t blacked out 3 days a week, you’re doing something wrong. We call bullshi*t.

Parties aren’t for everyone. Four Lokos CERTAINLY aren’t for everyone. But having f u n is. Just stop crowding the sidewalk & go find your fun already.
