We all fell in love with Katie Thurston when she stepped out of the limo on night one, bearing a massive vibrator and a radiant smile. The fan-favorite never disappointed, quickly becoming the sensible heroine in a season full of petty drama. Katie was the glimmer of hope in this season, the only reason we watched some weeks, and the person we could always count on to be brutally honest. Hey, ABC; consider this our formal petition for Katie to be next season’s Bachelorette. Still not convinced?

Katie entered this season discussing the important topic of sex-positivity—a first for the Bachelor franchise. In previous seasons, like Hannah Brown’s, sex-positivity was only discussed in negative terms. Who could forget when Luke P. put Hannah’s moral values on trial all because she had sex in a windmill? However, with her bold presence alone, Katie made Bachelor history and opened the door for female sexuality to become an open conversation for future seasons. She demonstrated this sex-positive attitude throughout the season; when she attended the date where women wrote down their sexual fantasies to show to Matt, Katie applauded and supported everyone so they would feel as comfortable as possible.

Katie was also the only one in the house to face the “Queen Victoria” drama with poise, and total badassery, bringing up the bullying in the house in a subtle, mature manner. She is the epitome of “here for the right reasons,” and spent her entire time in the mansion furthering her and Matt’s connection. Even when Serena C. attacked her, she approached the situation with respect and didn’t make the entire night about her. Katie was the first to display the elusive quality of “emotional intelligence” constantly thrown around in the show.

Obviously, our Bachelor hearts collectively broke when Matt sent Katie home after their one-on-one. However, there may be a silver lining as she could be gearing up to become the next Bachelorette. With a closing scene driving into the foggy night sky, Katie was quoted as saying, “I know what I deserve, and I deserve a man who knows what I have to offer, and there’s someone out there who wants that…” potentially foreshadowing Katie finding that man this coming season. We can all agree that we have waited long enough for a deserving Bachelorette. After Clare Crawley’s disaster of a season (thank god for Tayshia stepping in!), we would love to finally see an emotionally intelligent woman like Katie find the man of her dreams on national television. If Katie is chosen as the next Bachelorette, we can look forward to a season of honesty, sex-positivity, and the take-no-shit attitude we love.
