Taylor Swift’s Rerecording of Fearless
The rerecording of Fearless is a sentiment to the rights of the artist and Taylor Swift’s ability to top the charts for the same album twice. Not only that, but the rerecording allows Taylor’s music to escape the grasps of misogynistic media and take control over her music back. Instead of being known for “swifting” men, for the first time, her music is able to be listened to for her talent. With Fearless being her third number one album in under a year, we are so excited for what comes next.
Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is exactly what every Swiftie---scratch that, every human being--needs right now. Those of us lucky enough to be going through a breakup when Fearless (Taylor’s Version) dropped are part of an extremely exclusive club that truly understands her pain. Going through a breakup or not, Fearless is the ultimate mid-semester album if you’re looking to get in touch with your inner teary-eyed youth. Shout out to all of our shitty exes who put Mr. Perfectly Fine on repeat in our minds, that includes Joe Jonas. Taylor was right, you are Mr. Too Late.
The nostalgia and pureness this album gives us feels as comforting as a hug from your mom (cue The Best Day). Taylor’s adult voice on the songs she released as a teenager sounds heartbreakingly more mature, legitimizing how much we’ve grown up since her first release. It’s a unique feeling when a new album comes out and you already know every lyric. The few songs Taylor kept in the vault all this time would have destroyed us in 2008 but somehow feel even more powerful in 2021.
Fearless (Taylor’s Version) recreates the deep feelings we had when we were ~fifteen.~ Finally, Taylor Swift is able to rewrite her story and reclaim her rightful place as a talented artist. We’ve had enough of the disrespect for Taylor, the sheer fact that Fearless can be this popular twice should prove her musical stamina and timelessness. It will be no surprise that Taylor Swift stays on top of the charts, forever and always.
