The Magic is Fading in Hogwarts
"I'll not be here sadly, but Hagrid will..." -Robbie Coltrane
On October 14, 2022, the world lost one of the last living pieces of magic, Robbie Coltrane. The world wept harder than watching Dobby die or watching George react to Fred’s death. (We’re already disgusted you aren’t crying).
Anyone born between 1997 and 2007 can tell you just how much Harry Potter was a part of their lives. When you turned eleven, you can’t lie saying you did not want a letter sending you off to Hogwarts to train under a house and get to meet the weird and quirky characters of a magical world. Don’t lie to us.
Hagrid, for all those uncultured swines, is the Gamekeeper and Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts and father figure to Harry alongside Dumbledore. He was a loyal, caring, courageous, and soft-hearted giant who had the craziest pets. And we ate it up for 8 movies.
Coltrane speaks of his time as Hagrid as the most meaningful role he ever played. In interviews, he talks about watching him and all the kids grow up on the silver screen. He could look back on those films and remember scenes we, the audience, never saw and conversations we never heard. Always giving us a backstage look, Coltrane was truly a bestie for the fans.
He died in Scotland of unknown causes. His coworkers and fans have taken to social media to show how much he meant to us all.
Coltrane left a legacy that will and has surpassed him, but also left one that even our children will remember as long as magic remains in the hearts of people. The tears being shed are happy, but it is a sore spot, and will be when we re-watch all seven movies (tissue run, be right back).
Fans know the real reason he left in our hearts, though, is because he finally got his real letter to Hogwarts.
While here at Jerk don’t give homework. But, if you want to cry a little harder, We recommend you check out the link below.
