Dining Hall Delights

The dining hall certainly has its ups and downs (cue back to when Ernie used paper plates for whole day), but it’s not ALL bad! In my time at Syracuse, there’s something that I have grown fond of, which are the dining hall desserts! Here are some recommendations on what to look out for during your next trip to the dining hall.

Playdough Ice-Cream: A bright yellow tub is something you can’t miss at the ice cream station. It’s alright… the bright color is the only thing distracting you from the fact that it’s just cookie dough ice cream. This playdough ice-cream is something you can pass up, really nothing special.

Fudge Covered Brownie: It’s a staple. Usually, it’s good on its own, but also pair it with some ice cream or milk (dairy free only…) and it gets a little better. If you are going to grab this and it isn’t fresh, I would recommend throwing it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.

Carrot Cake: Some people love it; some people hate it. But me personally, I’m a believer that you can never go wrong with a piece. I’ve never had a piece of carrot cake I haven’t enjoyed. The cream cheese frosting is to die for, the breading reminds me of the fall. Overall, this is a strong choice, it’s a bit rare to see in the dining hall so make sure to grab a slice.

Gluten Free Chocolate Chip cookies: Hear me out… I personally am not gluten intolerant; however, these cookies hold something special in my heart. They don’t taste gluten free, yet they are… and this combination makes them very fascinating. They are always around and never fail me.

6 Layer Cookie bar: The Holy Grail, and an absolute staple in the dining hall. I could go on and on about these bars for hours. They have everything: cookie, brownie, chocolate chips, and oreos. Something about these is just so perfect. Even when they are on display, I can just feel the mood shift on campus.
