The Hadids: Friendly Family Competition
When you grow up with a supermodel for a mother, and a famous real estate developer for a father, it’s safe to say you’re destined for greatness, or complete failure… but that’s your choice. The Hadid sisters chose greatness and have since become two of the biggest supermodels of our generation. With friends like Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, and Karlie Kloss, they are able to enter into a world that we could only dream of. Sisters Bella and Gigi have redefined the fashion world, breaking all standards of what it means to be “young and beautiful,” something we haven’t seen since the glory days of the amazing Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, and Gisele Bündchen. So there’s truly no surprise when the gorgeous duo has appeared on nearly every cover and runway out there.
Gigi’s rise into the modeling industry began in 2011 when she moved to NYC. Soon after she arrived, lucky bitch Gigi signed with IMG models in 2013. A year shortly thereafter, she made her NYFW runway debut walking for Desigual, and from there… well, things only went up for the blonde beauty. Since then the supermodel appears on magazine covers all over the world. From the US to Italy, Paris, Japan, Australia, and more, it’s safe to say that Gigi Hadid has become one of the most notorious faces in the fashion industry.
Throwback to December 5, 2016, the Victoria Secret Fashion Show, also know as “The Sexiest Night of the Year,” when the world had the pleasure of being introduced to Bella Hadid, a first timer to the event. Bella held her own among some of the industry's best, including her sister Gigi, that night on the runway. This was one of the first times that the two really strutted their stuff together in front of a worldwide audience.
That night the two Hadid girls became the first pair of sisters to walk that beautiful pink runway. Suffice it to say there was no shortage of tears from either sis. Big sis Gigi gushed to cameras over Bella killing it on that runway that night. "I am so proud of [Bella] for getting this show because she worked so hard. [And] for us to be able to do it together, and be the first sisters in the show, we're really, really honored,” says Gigi.
Bella followed suit, and walked the runway just as flawlessly as her big sis. She might have been a little nervous, due to her rookie status, but she ultimately attracted everyone’s interest. Directly after the Paris Fashion Show palooza, rumors surfaced about a split between Bella and longtime boyfriend the Weeknd. It turned out two years was just a little too much for the supermodel–superstar duo. On November 10, directly after the filming of the fashion show ended, confirmation from magazines all over posted the unfortunate split, citing scheduling conflicts as their downfall.
Nonetheless, big sis Gigi continued to float on Cloud Nine content with the man of most of our dreams, superstar Zayn Malik. Gigi’s Instagram and Snapchat documents their relationship over the past year, often giving us proof that love does exist even when you are young, rich, and famous. Brb, dreaming of a forever like theirs. Wake me up when it’s my turn.
Today the world sees a lot of the two sisters, but not often in the same venue. Last week, however, Gigi shut down the runway at the Venice Beach “Tommy x Gigi” show. Gigi closed the amazing show while names like Joan Smalls, Sara Sampaio, her sister Bella, and more had the pleasure of accompanying her as part of the madness.
Although it seems like big sis Gigi may have all the connections while little sis Bella walks in her shadow, don’t discount the little guy just yet. Bella is seamlessly making her way to the top to join sister Gigi and friends Kendall and Hailey Baldwin. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good underdog story? Even though Bella Hadid is hardly the underdog.
We’re watching you Bells.
