The Survival of Streaming Services
Procrastination-induced Netflix binges just aren’t the same anymore. They’ve taken off all of our fave comfort shows (RIP The Office, you’ll be missed), and although they were able to stall for time by bringing back iCarly and Avatar the Last Airbender, we can only root for *Seddie* for so long. Is it time to ditch Netflix and invest in a different streaming service?
With the division of shows among streaming sites, the ongoing dilemma of finding a show that will actually hold our dwindling attention span becomes more and more of a struggle. Instead of just having one $12/a month site that has everything you could ever need, shows are starting to become more spread out and exclusive to particular sites. Netflix has already removed SO many classics, and that list is only going to continue to grow. What do you MEAN we can’t watch the second season of I’m Not Okay With This anymore?! I’m definitely not ok with that!
It’s even starting to become hard just keeping track of which sites EXIST, let alone have content that we want to watch. It feels like a new one is coming out every month--the latest being Paramount Plus. As yet another bank-breaking attempt to grab the national attention span, Paramount Plus features several of the Star Trek movies, every Nickelodeon show (okay, deal), and will later be getting Get Out II. But did we really need to throw another platform in the mix?
Who should we turn to in our ~hour of laziness?~
Soon, Netflix will be holding on by a thread, and that thread is merely nostalgia. Disney Plus is also proving to be quite the competitor for Netflix and Hulu--while we might think of Princesses and Frozen when we hear “Disney,” the site owns quite a few binge-worthy movies and TV shows. It has all of our fave Disney Channel classics in addition to both Star Wars and Marvel. Some of HBO Max’s features include Euphoria, GOT, a few of the DC movies, and Friends...how are we supposed to choose between Baby Yoda and Ugly Naked Guy?!
Deciding which streaming service to choose from is a struggle for any Gen Z TV superfan, especially since we’re all definitely broke from using online shopping as a coping mechanism. Maybe we should give our eyes a break and just like, I don’t know...do our homework or something.
