Are Sambas Sticking Around?
The Adidas Samba is a sneaker with black or white leather and those three iconic white stripes. These shoes have been around for ages because of, in our opinion, their sleek and simple design.
Created in the 1950s for playing Icey football, they have wavered between being in and out of mainstream fashion ever since. Today, they seem to be on everyone’s feet.
They have a grip on our campus and a hold on US fashion. Magazines such as Vogue, Women’s Health, and InStyle have all published articles about Sambas within the last few months. The larger question is, will these shoes stick around? Should you buy them? And if you have them, will you be burying them along with last season’s footwear?
We at Jerk know some questions that can help us understand how these shoes will hold up over time:
Would you still buy/have bought Sambas if you did not know they were trendy/popular?
Can I style Sambas after the trend has ended?
What attracts me to Sambas?
Most of these questions are subjective and specific to your individual styling choices. However, there is one that stands out: Can I style them after the trend?
Sambas come in various different colors, but we’ll focus on the trendy black and white style that’s dominating mainstream fashion right now, and that you’re likely considering buying. (Be real, that’s probably why you’re here.)
Black and White shoes are easy to style, so they could stay in the limelight longer. Fashion trends typically last about a year according to Fibre2Fashion, so it’s not uncommon to see popular clothing items fade quickly from the spotlight. However, I think that there’s something about the Samba that will keep it at center stage. They’re versatile, sleek, and backed by a popular name brand. In essence, there are definitely new and interesting ways to style Sambas, and uphold their curb appeal.
If you’re on the fence about buying Sambas, we’d recommend holding off on dropping $100 for right now - just wait to see if our predictions are right! If you and everyone else have forgotten about Sambas in a few weeks, then you’ve saved a fat stack of cash.
But if you’ve been itching to buy a pair of those black and white Sambas that everyone seems to love, then there’s a good chance that you’ll be on trend for a good while.
