The Class Registration Games
It’s just past mid-semester at ‘Cuse, which only means one thing: spring registration is coming up soon! We know, terrifying.
Registering for classes is not for the weak, after all, you’re usually fighting minute by minute to get a seat in your classes. There’s always at least one class that only offers one section despite hundreds of students needing seats, or the class that fills up just as you hit the checkout. Convenient.
To our freshman readers, be ready. Nobody is over-reacting when they say registration is a nightmare.
Our tip to you is to have a backup plan. We can not emphasize this enough. DO NOT get your heart set on one specific schedule. You are setting yourself up for failure.
Have at least two extra sections of each class you need to take ready to be added to your cart. Best case scenario you won’t need them, but if you get a worst case scenario, you’ll be grateful.
Another tip is to have an extra class that you could swap in just in case. If one class fills up completely, don’t get stuck doing last minute searches for your next required classes. Have a backup class ready to be added to your cart, it's better than having to take an extra class next semester.
Maybe Syracuse could plan out courses better? Like, having enough sections to actually meet the demand of students that have a requirement for it? But until then, I guess we’ll all keep going to emergency drop-ins with our advisors.
