Cardi B Speaks Out on the #MeToo Movement
While Cardi B is known for her hilarious catchphrases, noises and facial expressions, her opinions on sexual harassment are what have brought her attention recently. Cardi B never fails to speak her truth and has been able to enlighten the public on how the #MeToo movement hasn’t come to understand the struggle of artists in the hip-hop industry. Cardi B, Cosmopolitan Magazine’s April cover star, talked down on the #MeToo movement in her interview for excluding female hip-hop artists. Like always Cardi did not hold back when she stated, “A lot of video vixens have spoke about this, and nobody gives a fuck. When I was trying to be a vixen, people were like, ‘You want to be on the cover of this magazine?’ Then they pull their dicks out. I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a hoe. It don’t matter.’”

The rap artist explained that while she is glad that sexual harassment is being brought to the forefront of the conversation, she has some doubts regarding whether certain women will be represented and taken seriously. She even suggested that men who supposedly support the MeToo movement should not be trusted by saying, “These producers and directors, they’re not woke, they’re scared,”
Cardi B is not alone in these feelings of exclusion. Recently, Time and Vice both published articles regarding sex workers and incarcerated females who said they felt like they had been left out of the movement. Women in situations that are regarded as public unacceptable or taboo feel that they are not being taken seriously when it comes to the discussion of sexual assault. For Cardi B, she remarked that because of her past as a stripper, the media was portraying her in a negative light. She argues that stripping is a real job where she made real money.
Despite all of these statements, Cardi B fully supports women’s rights and the #MeToo movement, but all she truly wants is for all women to be respected and to be heard, which I think we can all agree with.
