Kendall Jenner Steps From In Front Of The Camera To Behind It

Screen Shot 2017-02-06 at 10.36.21 PM They say these days that anyone with an iPhone or any type of camera phone can become a photographer. So there was no surprise when the ultimate “It” girl Kendall Jenner decided to add the hobby to her extremely lavish repertoire. Having worked with the most distinguished names in the fashion industry, we sincerely hope she learned at least one thing about how to use a damn camera.

Here at Syracuse University, you may have to take a three-hour photo lab until 8 p.m. on a Thursday to try your hand at a photography career. However, when your first name is Kendall, and your last name is Jenner, you’re lucky to enough to bypass those painful lessons and gain easy industry recognition for a job with which you’ve only really toyed around.

Kendall Jenner has a solid crew of multitalented friends who might be the inspiration of her juggling of careers. In 2006, Disney Channel graced us with “Hannah Montana” character Rico Suave. Remember that little guy? Rico’s real name is Moises Arias, and if you’re an avid follower of the Jenner or Kardashian clan (as most of us are but don’t care to admit) then you’re familiar with Arias and his work. He photographs his celeb friends, including Justin Bieber, the Kardashians, and Willow and Jaden Smith. Jenner and Arias are part of a friend group filled with trendy, successful, and fabulous young adults, many of whom have turned to Instagram to showcase their photography skills. Kendall Jenner’s profile is no different. It is teeming with pictures every now and then posted with the caption “by me,” indicating that it’s her own photography. Still, Jenner has only recently begun to shoot on a professional, non-iPhone-tainted level.

Last week, Hari Nef, a transgender model famous for speaking on behalf of the trans community, tweeted a sneak peek at her cover for LOVE magazine shot by, you guessed it, Kendall Jenner herself. The issue is set to release on February 6. This is not be the first time Jenner has shot for LOVE. She made her debut in July 2016 by capturing the beauty of Kaia Gerber, the daughter of model icon Cindy Crawford.

Now…let’s just put some things into perspective. Although the pictures of both models are beautiful, it remains unknown if Jenner will pursue photography as a side career to all of her other pursuits. The compositions fill the frame, the colors are vibrant, and her subjects really know how to work the camera. But to achieve becoming a cover photographer for any magazine, well, that’s something that photographers strive towards for their entire careers. It’s something that we’re not sure Jenner has rightfully earned. Maybe it’s because she had a tireless “momager” who capitalized on her children for television ratings, but not all of us could be as #blessed. There’s always been a great deal of talk whether or not Jenner gallivants through life, being handed the opportunities that the rest of us can only dream of. Regardless, there is no doubt that the supermodel, television personality, socialite, and now photographer is a hard worker. Whether or not she is a cover-worthy photographer… Well, that’s an entirely different conversation to be had. From what we’ve seen so far of the budding collection, “Kendall Jenner the photographer,” she has talent. Her pictures of Kaia Gerber and Hari Nef are soft but exciting. She employs a shallow depth of field, focusing on the person and not the background, and the exposures are on point. So Kendall, sweetheart, although it may remain unclear to all of us over here, aspiring to one day achieve what you so easily did by...well, by being you, we do commend you. Maybe it’s just beginners luck, but power to ya, girlfriend.
