The First Finding Dory Trailer is Out and We're Still Not Over It

https://www.flickr.com/photos/cthomasuscg/3306938931 After twelve long years of waiting, our beloved Finding Nemo is finally getting the sequel it deserves. While the storyline of Finding Dory takes place six months after Nemo’s safe return home, we haven’t actually seen anything new from our fish friends since 2003. However, last week the first trailer for Finding Dory was finally released, spilling the beans that the film we’ve all been waiting for will hit theaters June 17, 2016.

Here is some (fish)food for thought to bolster your excitement.

We'll finally figure out who the fuck Dory is.

Finding Dory is based on a sudden memory Dory has about her family. Her realization initiates a personal mission to travel through the deep blue to find them. In Finding Nemo, we never learn where Dory comes from or who her relatives are (since she can barely remember her own name), let alone what caused her bad memory in the first place. Here’s to hoping the sequel can answer some of our decade-old questions about the mysterious character we all know and love.

We get more of Ellen DeGeneres.

AKA the patron saint of everything good in life. As arguably the funniest person on earth, Ellen is perfect for Dory’s goofy, lovable character. Ellen played Dory in Finding Nemo where she was just a supporting role, but in Finding Dory, Ellen will get to bring her character into the spotlight.

More random (and strangely applicable) quotes are in store.

How many times have you told yourself to “just keep swimming” on a rough day? Or said “mine” in a seagull accent when someone tried to take your food? Or after being outside in beautiful weather thought, “the sun is SHINING, the tank is CLEAN?”– probably more than you’d like to admit. On top of all those life changing lines, we find ourselves reciting Finding Nemo quotes constantly—“fish are friends, not food,” “AWH you guys made me ink,” and “He touched the butt”—just to name a few. If Finding Dory is anything like the original film, there will be many more hilarious lines to add to our repertoire. If we’re lucky, Dory will even do her signature whale call again.

We get a flashback to Monster’s University.

Remember how hype everyone got for Monster’s University when it was first released? That was undoubtedly because of our fond memories of the original Monsters, Inc. In a way, Finding Dory is very similar to Monster’s University. Both movies are modern takes on the most iconic movies of our generation. Sequels like these give us an excuse to re-experience our childhood classics from a new perspective.

We can relinquish our younger years.

An outsider might not expect a bunch of college students to give a damn about some “kids movie” like this one. But in reality, Finding Dory couldn’t be coming at a better time. As college students, we’re all too aware of the fact that we’re getting older and the real world is coming at a fast and furious rate. By reintroducing a piece of our childhood in a new way, Pixar is singlehandedly reassuring us that we haven’t been completely reduced to old, boring adults yet—we still have some inner kid left that can enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
