Why It's Great Being Single on Mayfest
Free burgers and beers in Walnut Park (thanks, tuition money) is just around the corner! Usual social rules – like politely nodding at that girl from your writing 105 class freshman year who you haven’t really talked to since, but know her entire life story from Facebook – just don’t apply. To guarantee a good time before you pass out at approximately 5 p.m., take a look at a few things you can get away with just because it’s Mayfest.
Mingle, mingle, mingle. So what if you’re not sure whose barbeque it is? On Mayfest, everyone is your best friend. Bringing a few drinks over to the party next door and sharing ‘em is a great way to get to know people you may not usually hang out with.
Keep it moving. After enjoying your free pregame in Walnut, take a walk down Euclid and explore your options. Make your way to as many beer pong tables as possible. At the very least, you’ll get a new drink and see a few new faces.
Hook up with a random that you know nothing about. It’s mutually understood that this hookup doesn’t mean commitment. It doesn’t even guarantee you’ll ever see each other again. Actually, scratch that – you’ll probably be seated next to them at Block Party.
However, while this is an official day drinking celebration, there are also a few “don’ts” that are crucial to keeping your day running smoothly.
Don’t take on more than you can handle. Pace yourself for all the day’s activities. You don’t want to be puking in the Dome bathrooms during Block Party. Nobody wants to play babysitter or worry about someone else when – let’s be honest – nobody is in the condition to be a caretaker.
Don’t show up empty handed. You obviously don’t have to provide booze for a house full of 50 people, but be sure to bring a something to add to the table (even if it’s just lemon cupcakes or spiked watermelon). It won’t go unappreciated.
The goal of Mayfest? Have fun and steer clear from party fouls. Drink, eat, and be merry. You have the rest of the weekend to worry about losing your beer belly, finishing your thesis, and studying for finals. Handle these types of dilemmas before and after the fact to ensure maximum enjoyment.
