COVID sucked in a number of ways. Thousands of ways. One of those ways was that it forced movie theaters to close down, a terrible notion for film buffs who practically lived at the theaters, and a terrible notion for those who love to inhale overpriced popcorn.

Well, after a long year, year and a half, however long COVID protocols lasted, we are finally granted the opportunity to go back to the movies. Yes! But, what do you want to see? What’s even out?

Don’t fret. We have a list of great movies that have come out in the month of October, and a list of movies that are coming out in November. You can judge for yourself if you want to go see them in theaters.

FILMS THAT ARE OUT:

  • Dune (Oct. 22)

    • If you’re a fan of science fiction, this film is most definitely up your alley. Dune takes place in the far out future where a number of houses control different sectors of the planet, and if you couldn’t guess, they’re in feuds. If you need more context, just imagine Game of Thrones but in space, essentially. Now this film directed by Denis Villeneuve is just the beginning of a series, and there’s a confirmed sequel, so not every aspect of the book, written by Frank Herbert, is in the film, just a heads up. Still entertaining, nonetheless, so if you’re into this genre, go check out this film.

  • French Dispatch (Oct. 22)

    • A nice change of pace from Dune, really. This film by Wes Anderson touches upon interpersonal struggles of relationships in families and in love, as it’s set in the 1960s in, if you couldn’t guess, France. The romance/comedy involves a magazine, The French Dispatch, and the workings of journalism and the world around the characters. If you liked the film “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” this should be in your list of films to go see.

  • Last Night in Soho (Oct. 29)

    • Calling all psychological horror fans...this one’s for you. This film by Edgar Wright will have you thinking and thinking. It’s about an aspiring fashion designer who’s able to basically shift to the 1960s, embodying a beautiful Anya Taylor-Joy, who’s a wannabe singer with an apparent dark secret that glamor is not all fun and games, and that dreams of a star spiral into darkness.

  • Marvel’s Eternals (Nov. 5)

    • Marvel fans! Finally something other than the Avengers! Eternals is showcasing a whole new diverse team of super heroes, really cool ones, who are basically aliens living in secret on Earth, one’s whose powers are godly and beyond those of humanity. This team of 10 reunites on Earth to protect it from beings called Deviants. Also this cast is helllla loaded. Super facey. This film directed by Chloé Zhao is going to be very refreshing from the consistency of the MCU, mainly speculating around the Avengers.

  • Spencer (Nov. 5)

    • The lovely Kristen Stewart portrays the late Princess Diana, where the film follows her decision to leave Prince Charles. The film takes place in 1991 on Christmas holiday over the span of three days. Director Pablo Larraín named the film Spencer, her maiden name before marrying into the crown, because “it’s about finding herself...and to be with herself and by herself.” The movie follows the drama of affairs and the entrapment inside a loveless marriage. The moments and events leading to the end of her life had been secret, and, although fictionalized, this movie will most likely give an insight on those moments.

  • House of Gucci (Nov. 24)

    • Lady Gaga and Adam Driver. Repeat: Lady Gaga and Adam Driver. Set in Italy, the film directed by Ridley Scott follows the events and aftermath of the murder of Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), the head of the Gucci fashion house, and Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), the great granddaughter of the house founder, who was charged. It’s inspired by the familital empire that Gucci is and was, the film covering about three decades of its existence in its prime. If you’re a fan of crime/drama or Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, this film is right up your alley - mark your calendars!

Now you’re up to date on the most anticipated movies of November 2021! It’s a miracle the movie theaters are resuming their normalities, as it was a struggle during COVID for those who practically live at the theater. Mark these dates on the calendar, buy your tickets, and go judge these movies for yourself!
