POPCYCLE X CALLISTO

Popcycle, a student-run hub for fashion, teamed with Callisto to sell cute clothes and support a good cause. The event was held in Bird Library and you could find the works of various student designers currently partnered with Popcycle; Graterthings, Sweats by Sofie, Lave, and more

The event raised over $1,200 for Callisto, a new non-profit, web-based organization that aims to prevent and protect from sexual assault. Callisto has recently expanded its work to include a “campus champion,” Abigail Jorja Tick, on the SU campus. The organization offers many resources for survivors, from legal options counseling, an encrypted record recreation system that is private to survivors, and a unique matching system that detects repeat offenders and allows survivors the option to connect to others that have identified the same offender. Callisto offers control, and holistic response, with advocates on the ground. By allowing survivors to ask questions without finite action being taken, they can understand all of their options before taking action. Callisto values and believes survivors first.

This was the first crossover event for the two companies but hopefully not the last. Abigail described the team up as a “natural collaboration” and is optimistic about future collaborations. Popcycle even forfeited its portion of the sales to donate to Callisto. We love an ethical fashion merchandiser. Whether you were looking for cute vintage ‘cuse merch, abstract edgy jewelry, or cute and comfy matching sets, this pop-up was the place to be with fabulous things to see.

Overall, the event was a huge success, raising awareness, money, and the bar. Now there’s some shopping you can justify. If you missed out on the event last week, keep your eyes peeled for the next one!
