Why 'No Hard Feelings' Hits Different

Recently, we’ve been having rom-coms that have such great potential: great casting, decent plot – but the film has either too much romance or too much comedy and you leave the movie feeling like, really unsatisfied.

It’s even more sucky when you compare these recent works to the masterpieces of the early 2000s: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Proposal, 10 Things I Hate About You and The Notebook to name a few. The recent ones just don’t hit the same. The dialogue feels awkward, there’s no chemistry, everything feels very meh.

Buuuut, never fear, No Hard Feelings is here to save the day. This fresh film stars none other than the queen herself, Jennifer Lawrence and the fresh new talent Andrew Barth Feldman.

Right off the bat, we see the perfection of the casting choices. Jennifer Lawerence proves that she was just made for rom-coms. Her absolutely stunning but hilarious character has surprisingly amazing chemistry with the perfectly awkward-dorky-loser that Andrew Barth Feldman plays, and while definitely having plenty of those absurd comedic elements that we all love to laugh at, the movie smoothly balances all that humor out with equally valuable moments of romance, vulnerability and depth. Now that’s how you do a rom-com.

Nowadays, it’s hard to come out of movie theaters feeling like what you just watched was actually really, really good. But No Hard Feelings proves that there’s still hope for the beloved genre of rom-coms.
