Pre-Break Blues

It’s officially the least wonderful time of the year; Thanksgiving break is just around the corner and Starbucks is decorated for the winter holidays, but your professors are still assigning a reading, a paper, and a quiz– all due next week of course. It’s almost impossible to stay motivated when all you can do is think about sleeping and celebrating stress free in a couple of weeks. Luckily for you, we here at Jerk are going to walk you through balance in a time of restless anticipation.

Our first piece of motivation is to not let capitalist America win! Dragging yourself through life until your next break is no way to live– fill those moments. Even though having something you’re looking forward to can make time crawl, it can also help you get through each day. Whether it’s soft-serve from the dining hall (though, we wouldn't count on that one), going out, or having a movie night, you should have a little something that makes each day special. Before you know it, it’ll be November 19th and you’ll be wondering why it ever felt so far away.

On the work side of things, the best way to stay afloat is (and we know you’ve heard it a hundred times) to stay organized. Sometimes organized looks like a planner or a to-do list, but other times it looks like a wall of post-it notes or a hand covered in Sharpie. However you decide to do it, make sure you’re keeping track of the endless stream of assignments you may or may not be doing, so that, at the very least, you’re in the know.

That moves on to the next point: prioritizing. Some things are just not as important as others (*gasp*). Seriously though, if it comes down to it, figure out what really needs to get done and do that first. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Sometimes things need to be sacrificed and, if the A in the philosophy class that has nothing to do with your major can take the hit, but your marketing class can’t, you know what needs to be done.

That all said, with mere days to go, we know you can make it. Good luck and enjoy some well deserved rest this Thanksgiving!
