Accents' Growth and Squalor opens with "Underwater," which starts out bluesy and becomes angry and brooding. The lyrics reflect the attitude: "I'm gonna break your lonely heart, and I'm gonna tear your life apart." This contrasts with the rest of the album, which is more subdued. The album becomes redundant in the middle, with songs like "Storms" and "The Fog" blending together. There are standout tracks, however, like "Alright with Me" and "Seeds" that showcase vocal strength backed by beautiful instrumentation. Growth and Squalor is, in the end, a solid album with sounds ranging from folk to alternative and everything in between.
