All the Shitty Stuff Trump Did This Semester
While we’ve been hard at work all semester, Trump has been racking up points for worst president of the year award (spoiler: he’s in the lead). Here is a collection of every insensitive, unprofessional, and downright ignorant thing Donald Trump has done since school started in August. Get your passports ready.
Aug 25th: Just days before we stepped foot on Syracuse’s campus, Trump made his first presidential pardon: Joe Arpaio. The former Arizona county sheriff was set to be convicted in October for racial profiling practices. Arpaio prided himself in being the “toughest sheriff ever,” but apparently the “strict law enforcement” didn’t apply to the 400 cases of sex crimes within a 3-year period that went uninvestigated by Arpaio’s office. In Trump’s subsequent tweet after pardoning the sheriff, our fearless leader deemed the sheriff an “American Patriot.”
Sept 5th: As we enjoyed a darty filled syllabus week, Trump ended the DACA program, which protected 800,000 undocumented people who were brought to the US as children from deportation. But screw it, when you’re 10 you should know better than to follow your parents! Just common sense!
Sept 19th: While we were trying to maintain a respectable GPA while blacking out at East Adams every weekend, Trump was making a fool out of himself at the UN assembly. Trump, speaking without a filter, as he does, called Iran a “rogue nation” and that he vowed to “totally destroy” North Korea if it threatened the US. “Totally destroy.” really? Is this Kindergarten? Are you going to “totally destroy” the sand castle Jimmy made?
Sept 24th: Trump comments on NFL players kneeling for the National Anthem, "If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place fast. Fire or suspend!" Last time we checked free speech is a constitutional right…? Someone get this man a pocket constitution @Maxwellschool.
Sept 25th: Trump back at it again with the travel bans! This time with an expanded travel ban. This one included Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.
Sept 30th: While us Syracuse students and the rest of the country empathized with the hardships of Puerto Ricans, Trump fired off a total of 18 tweets about Puerto Rico, all with a negative tone towards the island and its mayor. Among the most offensive comments: “Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help," in response to Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz publicly asking Trump for the same kind of federal aid Texas and Florida received. Trump’s Twitter fingers continued that night as he then tweeted, "They (Puerto Ricans) want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job.” Because demanding the same amount of aid for the same natural disasters as other US regions is completely ridiculous! Sad!
Oct 3rd: After his long-awaited visit to PR, Trump made a show of throwing rolls of paper towels to Hurricane victims in Puerto Rico’s capital, San Juan. The video of Trump throwing rolls of paper towels and handing out other products to a sea of victims is as cringy you would imagine. Trump, you can’t fix everything with some Bounty extra soft paper towels.
Oct 18th: In Trump’s continuous efforts to disrespect everyone he encounters, the president made insensitive comments while on the phone with widow of Sgt. La David T. Johnson, who twelve days earlier was killed in an Oct 4th ambush in Niger. On the phone call Trump said that her husband “knew what he signed up for,” and only referred to Sgt. La David T. Johnson as, “your guy.” That is a pretty YUGE mistake.
Nov 2nd: As we were trudging through the last couple weeks before Thanksgiving break, Trump was ballsy enough to denounce the entire American criminal justice system. He called it a “laughingstock” and “a joke.” While also proclaiming that NYC terrorist convicted of planting bombs in NY and NJ, “SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY!” Mr. Trump you are not too high and mighty to throw a conjunction or article in there.
Nov 28th: In a ceremony meant to honor Navajo veterans of WWII, Trump managed to insult them, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and embarrass the American people (once again). Trump said to the veterans, “You were here long before any of us were here,” he stated, “Although we have a representative in Congress who, they say, was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.” Seriously?
Nov 29th: We all remember Trump’s infamous Access Hollywood recording, where he said to the interviewer, “When you’re a star, they let you do anything. You can do anything. Grab ‘em by the pussy.” Well now Trump is apparently unsure if it was his voice. Even though he fully admitted that it was him last November...
Dec 4th: It’s very difficult, perhaps impossible, to choose which of Trump’s antics these past 100 days has been the worst. But in my opinion, this one takes the cake. Trump gave his full support to Alabama senator candidate Roy Moore. The man who sexually assaulted children has presidential support, and will most likely be elected into our federal government. But it’s fine, we’re fine, everything’s fine.
