Black Friday and Cyber Monday
BY: Kelley Rowland
Never having participated in Black Friday myself, in fear of long lines, dressing room disasters, and a bunch of assholes pushing me around, the day is a mystery to me. Is the $20 saved on that pair of jeans worth the agony?
What I love about Thanksgiving is that it’s not intended to be a consumer holiday, unlike Christmas where it seems like all spirit comes in the form of gifts. Nevertheless, 57% of Black Friday shoppers find the experience enjoyable and 37% of American adults shop on the day of chaos.
With the shopping holiday now starting at many stores on Thursday evening when most should be stuffing their faces, shoppers are instead lined up at electronic stores and malls in hopes of getting the best deals. So if you’re courageous enough to brave the stores, here are some deals you shouldn’t have missed:
Bergdorf Goodman: 40 percent off contemporary, ready-to-wear, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and men’s.
Macy’s: 30 to 75 percent off items through the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
American Eagle: 50 percent off discount in-store and online, as well as an in-store gift with purchase when customers spend above $60.
Old Navy: 50% off the entire store.
Express: Pre Black Friday sale, $25 off every $100 spent.
And let’s not forget Cyber Monday, a day of online shopping that I am entirely in support of. No lines, no people, great deals—sounds like my kind of shopping.
