Thanksgiving Day—er, break— is a time for napping, turkey, pie, football, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Each year, there are dozens of famous faces taking over our TV screens. Whether they’re hosting, talking, or performing, without fail any person watching can pick out a few fan favorites on floats trying out their best Ferris Bueller.

This year, among Ariana Grande, Florida Georgia Line, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Cher Lloyd, is a band that’s going places: the Summer Set.

The Summer Set are an American pop rock band from Arizona made up of vocalist Brian Logan Dales, bassist Stephen Gomez, guitarist and pianist John Gomez, guitarist Joshua Montgomery, and female drummer Jess Bowen. Last year Fearless Records, a pretty big name in the game, picked them up from one of their previous two labels. This band has been around for a while, but has only ever been big amongst the genre of pop-rock which borders alternative pop, but if you are a Dancing with the Stars lover, you might remember Chelsea Kane’s Cha-Cha with Mark Ballas to their song “Chelsea” back in 2011 for the show’s “First Love” episode.

I have been a huge fan for years, attending every possible show, so you can understand my excitement when I heard the news. To get to perform in the parade is legendary, which coincidentally is the title of the last album released this past spring.

The songs on this record are fantastic; they combine swift and clever lyrics with allusions to pop culture with power pop-rock beats. Every song on the CD is the kind that that you don’t skip over when it comes up on shuffle because the urge to strut around smiling at people is far too great to overcome. If I were to suggest their top seven songs to check out before Thanksgiving, they would be: “Boomerang”, “Lightning in A Bottle”, “F**k U Over”, “Legendary”, “When We Were Young”, “Chelsea”, and “Must Be The Music.”

All in all, whether you’re on your couch in your pajamas or freezing your ass off on the streets of New York, The Summer Set is a set you shouldn’t miss.
