Most people think of October as the month to bust out our sweaters and put pumpkins literally everywhere. This month isn't just about the change in temperature and Halloween though—October is known as national breast cancer awareness month in the U.S. All throughout the month people donate to research organizations, celebrate survivors, and try to raise awareness for this disease which afflicts so many women. According to a study conducted by the American Cancer Society, a woman is diagnosed with invasive breast cancer every two minutes in the U.S. alone, making it the second-most-common cancer among women worldwide.

To contribute to the fight, several beauty and fashion brands have taken initiative over the years by creating special-edition, "Pink" products and collections. For every purchase of these items, a portion of the proceeds go towards Breast Cancer research and awareness. The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) runs an initiative called Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Now in its 23rd year, the program raises funds and awareness for breast cancer. Designers in the CFDA including Calvin Klein, The Row and Ralph Lauren consistently lend their talents to creating merchandise that's auctioned or sold for the cause.

This year the CFDA partnered with Kate Hudson and Fabletics. Fabletics launched a brand-new collection in honor of breast cancer month. The collection of cute, affordable workout gear includes high wasted leggings, tanks, and sports bras. It's safe to say shopping for workout clothes just got 10x better.

Fashion brands outside of the CFDA are going pink this month, too. Tory Burch released a chic pink tote for a hefty price of $268, but 20% of each purchase will go toward the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. If you don’t have bank to spend, Forever 21’s BCA survivor graphic tee and pink faux fur slides are both cute and charitable for $6 and $20. One dollar from every purchase is donated to The Keep a Breast Foundation. More of our favorite places and brands that are giving back include The Gap, S’well Bottle, Alex and Ani, Missoni, Aerie, and H&M. Some of their even promotions extend beyond the month of October, so, next time you’re shopping (which we know will be very soon… you can’t help yourself) look for breast cancer awareness products or do your research before to find out which of your favorite stores support the cause.

All these brands donate all or a portion of the proceeds to Breast Cancer Awareness.
